In 2010 the county population was 12,161 in a land area of 302.88 square miles, an average of 40.2 people per square mile.
The equine population was 900 in the 2012 Kentucky Equine Survey.
Edmonson county was named for Captain John Edmonson, who served in the American Revolution and was killed in the War of 1812.
Much of eastern Edmonson county lies within Mammoth Cave National Park.
