Bethel is a Bath county community about eight miles northwest of Owingsville. It was established circa 1817 on the road from Maysville to Mount Sterling and probably named for a local church. The Bethel post office operated from 1843 to 1994.

Bethel is a common name in Kentucky – there are many churches named Bethel – and there is a Bethel community in Calloway county.
