Flatwoods, the largest town in Greenup county, is located on KY 750 about seven miles southeast of Greenup. The name may come from the local topography. Flatwoods was incorporated in 1932. An Advance post office operated in the area from 1892 to 1915 and a Cheap post office operated from 1918 until it was named Flatwoods in 1938. The population in 2010 was 7,423.
