Mill Springs, Kentucky
Mill Springs is in northern Wayne county about six miles north of Monticello near the south shore of Lake Cumberland. Mills operated on the site beginning in the early nineteenth century, taking advantage of water power from a series of springs. One of the mills has been restored and is still operating. The Mill Springs post office opened in 1825 and closed in 1994.
The Civil War Battle of Mill Springs was fought in the area in January 1862. There is a visitor center at the Mill Spring National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky, a few miles north of Mill Springs. The Mill Springs Battlefield Association has more information.
