Morganfield, the seat of Union county, is located near the center of the county. It was established in 1812 with the new county and named Morgan's Field for General Daniel Morgan.

Morganfield was incorporated in 1870.

The Morganfield Court House post office opened in 1813.

The population in 2020 was 2,492.

The Earl C. Clements Job Corps Center is just east of Morganfield at Breckinridge Center.
