Salt Lick is a Bath county town on Salt Lick Creek near the Licking River about six miles east of Owingsville.

Salt Lick was incorporated in 1888.

A Vail post office opened in 1882 and was renamed Salt Lick in 1888.

The population in 2020 was 248.
