Waco is a Madison county community at the intersection of KY 52 and KY 977 about seven miles east of Richmond. The name is said to come from the town in Texas, which was named for the Hueco people who lived in that area before European settlement. Various post offices operated in Waco or the vicinity beginning with Viney Fork in 1837, Ogg's Mills in 1846, Elliston in 1847, and Waco in 1861.
