Bellefonte, Kentucky
Bellefonte is a Greenup county city about 11 miles southeast of Greenup. It was named for a local charcoal iron furnace that operated from 1826 to 1893. The town was established to support the furnace. (Another Bellefonte Furnace was built by Armco Steel in 1942.)
Bellefonte was incorporated in 1951.
Bellefonte apparently never had a post office, although a Belfonte post office operated somewhere in Boyd county for a few months in 1918.
The population in 2020 was 921.
