Earnestville, Kentucky
Earnestville is in Lee county on Sturgeon Creek about 11 miles southwest of Beattyville. The origin of the name is obscure and the area is known as Wild Dog, for the nearby creek. Much of the vicinity is in the Daniel Boone National Forest.
The Earnestville post office opened nearby in Owsley county in 1891 and moved to Lee county in 1948. It closed in 1959.
