Edmonton, the seat of Metcalfe county, is located near the center of the county on the South Fork of Little Barren River. It is at the junction of US 68, KY 80 and the Cumberland Parkway. It was established about 1800 by Edmund P. Rogers (and named for him) and became the seat of the new county in 1860.

Edmonton was incorporated in 1860.

The Edmonton post office opened in 1830.

The population in 2020 was 1,680.
