Hardmoney, sometimes spelled Hard Money, is a McCracken county community about seven miles south of Paducah near the Graves county line. There are unconfirmed stories about the name, so it remains obscure. The first postmaster was John H. Ballance, who apparently later was postmaster for the Ballance post office.
The Hard Money or Hardmoney post office operated from 1880 to 1890 and then briefly in 1900.
