Bybee is a Madison county community about eight miles east of Richmond. The name comes from the Bybee family, local residents, and the name Bybeetown may have been in use before the Civil War. Bybee was the home of Bybee Pottery, established by 1845, possibly as early as 1809, by the Cornelison family. It ceased operation in 2011. The Bybee post office opened in 1902 and closed in 1984.
