Greenwood, Kentucky
Greenwood is a McCreary county community about 12 miles north of Whitley City on US 27. The location was originally known as the Summit – the high point on the Cincinnati Southern Railway – and was the home of a construction and maintenance facility for the railroad. Timber and coal mining were important local industries from about 1885. The Greenwood post office opened in 1876 and closed in the mid-twentieth century.
