Kirksville is a Madison county community on KY 1295 about five miles southwest of Richmond. It is named for Samuel Kirkendall who provided land for a school and church. Settlement may have begun in the early nineteenth century and the vicinity was known as Baghdad and Centerville. A Silver Creek post office opened nearby in 1828 and moved and was renamed Kirksville in 1845.
