Oriole is in Pulaski county about 16 miles northeast of Somerset. The origin of the name is obscure. The exact location is hard to determine. Postal records describe it as "three and a half miles west of Vanhook, three miles south of Plato, and two and a half miles east of Leroy." The location of Leroy is also difficult to determine.

The Oriole post office opened in 1908 and closed in 1911.
