Oriole is in Hopkins county about six miles southwest of Madisonville on Clear Creek. The origin of the name isn't known. This was the site of the Oriole Mine of the Bell and Zoller Coal and Mining Company of Chicago, Illinois which was in operation by 1950.

Oriole apparently never had a post office.

There is also an Oriole in Pulaski county.
