Peytontown, Kentucky

Peytontown was a Madison county community just south of Richmond. Settlement may have begun before the Civil War and it was mostly settled by former slaves. It was named for the Peyton family. Peytontown was a stop on the Rowland Branch of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The Peytontown post office opened in 1899 and closed in 1910.
