Slade is a Powell county community near Natural Bridge State Resort Park and the Red River Gorge Geological Area on the Mountain Parkway and KY 11. A McKnabb post office, named for a local family, opened in the area in 1888 and closed the next year. It was reopened as Slade, probably named for T.B. Slade of the Kentucky Union Railway, in 1889. The railroad station was variously known as McKnabb, Dundee, and finally Slade.
