Spears is a southern Fayette county community on the Tates Creek Pike (KY 1974) on the Jessamine county line at KY 169 and KY 1975. It was settled in the 1790s and became known as Spearsville, for John L. Spears, an early resident and surveyor. A Spears post office operated from 1867 until 1915.
