Zag is in Morgan county about eight miles northwest of West Liberty. A story of the name is that the post office rejected a long list of proposed names so the petitioners tried Zig and Zag.

The post office opened as Jeston in 1905, closed in 1913, reopened as Zag in 1915, and closed in 1965.
