Egypt is a Jackson county community about 12 miles southeast of McKee on Pond Creek. It was settled in the mid-nineteenth century and may have been named Egypt because it seemed so far away from the settlers' original homes.

The Egypt post office opened in 1876 and closed in in 1996.
