McKinney, Kentucky

McKinney is a Lincoln county community about nine miles southwest of Stanford. It is at or near the site of William Montgomery's 1779 fort. The fort was later destroyed and was rebuilt in 1789 by Archibald McKinney and became known as McKinneys Fort. The Cincinnati Southern Railroad arrived in 1874 and the community became known as McKinney Station. The name was later shortened to McKinney. The post office opened in 1877 as McKinney Station and was shortened to McKinney in 1880.
