Pinchem is a Todd county community about six miles south of Elkton. The origin of the name is obscure and there are several stories to explain it, but the name has been in use since at least 1882. Some maps spell the name Penchem and it was once known as Pinchem Slyly.

The Pinchem post office operated from 1882 to 1894.

There is another Pinchem in Clark county with similar stories about its name.
