Piper is in Bourbon county on the Lexington Road at Hutchison Road a few miles southwest of Paris. The name comes from the Piper family of early settlers.

During the early twentieth century there was a stop at Piper on the Kentucky Traction company interurban railroad between Lexington and Paris. That line ended operation circa 1938.
