Saint Joseph is a Daviess county community about 10 miles west of Owensboro. A church was built in 1854 on the site of the later Saint Alphonsus Church. The Saint Joseph Academy was established in 1861. It later became the Mount Saint Joseph Academy or the Saint Joseph Female Ursuline Academy. The Ursuline Sisters arrived in 1874 and became the autonomous congregation Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph in 1912. The Academy became the Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women and in 1950 became the basis of Bresica College in Owensboro. The Mount Saint Joseph Academy closed in 1983 and the building is now part of the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center.

The Saint Joseph post office operated from 1886 to 1995. A Maple Mount post office operated on the grounds of the Academy from 1934 to 2006.
