Vanarsdell was a Mercer county community on the Salt River about eight miles north of Harrodsburg. It was established by A.M. Vanarsdell who built a distillery about 1866. It became a station on the Louisville Southern Railway when it arrived in 1888.

The Vanarsdell post office opened in 1889 and closed in 1934.
