Wellsburg, Kentucky
Wellsburg was a Bracken county community about seven miles north of Brooksville on the Ohio River at the mouth of Locust Creek. The name is apparently for a local Wells family. There was a small population and some commercial activity and a junction of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad with the Brooksville and Wellsburg Railroad, completed in 1897. The Brooksville and Wellsburg Railroad stopped operating in the 1931 and severe flooding probably ended the town.
An Elmgrove post office opened at Wellsburg in 1890 and closed in 1940. Why it was called Elmgrove instead of Wellsburg isn't clear.
